Every artist starts somewhere. Look at the professionals you aspire to, they didn’t become masters of their craft overnight. Instead, they had to work day and night to achieve success. Now, would you make the effort to practice, train, and improve to have the chance to be like them? Do you have the passion and dedication to walk down this path? If the answer is “Yes”, continue ahead and begin your journey.

The Correct Mindset and Mentality
Everybody wants to create their imaginative wonders in their mind, but never have they lifted any art utensils and drawn on a piece of paper, only dreaming without taking action.
When you were a kid, you didn’t know how on earth to draw, but you would still scribble some stuff onto the paper without hesitation. When you grow up, everyone is scared of what they will create, scared of them being different from the reference image, real life, or their expectations. Even if you have tried drawing or painting once, the result looked awful and the initial motivation faded as time passed by.
What could you expect, some sort of masterpiece? If you have no expectations, then you cannot be disappointed. You are not looking for a refined, perfectionist creation that belongs on the wall of fame or something, why be so serious?
Of course, you should always have faith in yourself, but not too much, it will only turn to complacency. No one can draw or paint the masterpiece in their heads at the first trial. But after years of practice and training, anything you want can be easily drawn onto the canvas.
Hesitation won’t help with your creation process. Procrastination won’t help either. Well, guess what, go get a piece of paper and a pencil, nothing fancy, and draw right here, right now.

Anyone should be able to afford art
“I need that specific lead pencil he is using and that blue sketching pen the masters use, oh, and that squirrel-furred fine art brush as well.”
Well, that’s what you think. The fact is you don’t.
Imagine this, an expert cook could make a five-course with luxurious ingredients, or leftovers from yesterday’s dinner. What’s the difference if they use crappy ingredients? He could still make scrumptious and appealing cuisines.
It is the same for art as well. Expensive supplies that professionals use do not enhance your skills, but just a better quality tool for pros to execute their drawings. A mechanical pencil for your studies at school probably works just as well as a 20 bucks lead pencil bullsh*t.
Well if you have to know the difference, designs are the main reason for the high price. However, the performance of the pencil is pretty similar. Pencil leads are made of lead and clay; the more lead components there are, the more expensive it is. Some brands have 2B pencils darker than average 6B ones, some have F tips that can hardly be seen.
The utility is essential to what we artists need. Expensive supplies may produce better results, a better line weight, and a better everything. But it won’t have a slight difference if we do not know how to use it. We are not experienced enough with the complicated tools that exist in the market. So why don’t we play with what we own and experiment more before purchasing?

Start Off Anywhere
The time you are waiting for will never come
People are often waiting for the right opportunity, for the right moment to start drawing and blast through with motivation. What if that motivation doesn’t pop up in your life, ever? Or what if you missed the correct timing? Will you wait for another chance?
We do not have time to waste on waiting, so why don’t we start of right now? No matter what age we are, what position we are in in our life, or how much we have in our bank accounts. Anyone can start anywhere no matter where you are. In your cozy bedroom, in front of your work desk, or the bathroom, start drawing as if it is your lifelong passion. The path will no longer be bumpy and it will work out completely fine as long as you put in the work.
If you think now isn’t the right time to start, then you are wrong. It is only right to start now as you are living your youngest self.

Art is your Thing
Take charge of your own life
People at school, work, or family continuously judge us artists for our bad creations or criticize us for wasting our time and energy on this “useless” passion.
Well, we aren’t doing this for them. Art is a “your” thing. We are not creating something for others to admire in a frame or a gallery. Instead, we are doing it for ourselves, to fulfill our desire to create. People that are talking sh*t about art do not get the point of us drawing and painting. We do it for the fulfillment we gain from the process, even if the result is not to our satisfaction.
You know, do not look for attention or fame. Instead, try to grind on your skill and hone it as sharp as possible. Don’t let others’ opinions influence your decisions. Be distinctive, be bold, and be brave. If everyone’s style is the same, what would even be the point of creating? Try to go for another path, don’t be stuck in the loop of following in the footsteps of others. Develop your style.
Know the characteristics of your tools. Try experimenting with your setup by mixing all sorts of mediums, markers, and colored pencils. Don’t blindly follow the rules set by others. Don’t set boundaries on how it is used, try reaching its limits. No one said that you can’t mix acrylics with watercolor. That way, you can master your tools and make the most out of them. You have to learn the rule before you can break the rule.

Enjoy the process
Art is like riding a rollercoaster
Artists often doubt themselves and hesitate in the creation process. It may seem that at one point, you are creating a masterpiece; but then it falls apart after adding a few strokes. You may ruin it with one stroke, or save it with another. These uncertainties are what make the process fun, making it unpredictable.
It’s somewhat like gambling, you don’t know the result but you are hoping to get something out of it. Sometimes you add that one extra brush stroke, or alter a few facial features. Sometimes, the smaller changes make the larger differences.
Although you may encounter hardships, you may rage, and you may feel upset. Or you may feel extremely excited, ecstatic, and elated for the result.
Don’t let the outcome dictate your emotions. Be the one who controls your mindset. Have fun and enjoy the process of creating.
